Has Hamilton blown a 8th championship???

First of all I want to say a few words before actually getting into this properly. Well Done Baku 👍. Yes Baku it some how never fails to deliver and once again in 2021 on it’s return to the F1 calendar again it just didn’t fail. Okay admittedly I did find the first 30 laps somewhat boring and those two major incidents for Stroll and Verstappen helped to spice it up a lot and allowed for great racing especially in those final two laps! But even if that didn’t of happened it would of still been somewhat okay 👌 as we saw Sebastian Vettel come through the field like a gem 💎 and probably would’ve hopefully had a good battle witn Leclerc and maybe Gasly at the end of the race for P4/P5. 

But this isn’t a race review it’s more to say why I believe that T1 error from Lewis Hamilton could be championship deciding!

Now look Hamilton he knows it, Mercedes knows it, RedBull knows it and the whole paddock knows it. Yesterday at Azerbaijan when his main Championship rival Max Verstappen crashed out on lap 46/51 all Hamilton had to do was finish whether that be in P2, P3, P4 or wherever so long above 7th he’d of been leaving Baku a happy man as it would’ve meant he would’ve been leading the championship! 

So for Lewis Hamilton the task at hand was easy score a good points haul and guess what pal? Your on top of the world once more… but what was in theory was a easy task however one costly error into turn 1 upon the race restart witn a huge lock up and needing for taking the escape road placed all of that up in smokes like Verstappen crash cost him the chance of extending his championship lead.

Now okay you could argue without that crash Verstappen leads championship by huge margin but let’s not forget the crash wasn’t Verstappen fault however the error from Hamilton was his fault. He let Mercedes down and he ultimately let himself down. Of course don’t rule Hamilton out yet and I’d be a fool if I did but that error in my opinion if this championship goes down to the wire and Verstappen ends up winning by marginal points could’ve been the error that has cost Hamilton a 8th world championship!

Verstappen has been let of somewhat hugely. In what could’ve been a 21pts lead for Hamilton is now and still is a 4pts deficit to Verstappen. In truth Verstappen has zero rights to be leading this championship but Hamilton has lesser rights.

Also this isn’t the first major error Hamilton has made in 2021! If we rewind to the race at Imola Hamilton struggled in the changing conditions and yes I know he finished P2 but If it wasn’t for a RedFlag then that’s P9. Hamilton is making some huge mistakes in 2021 which is costing him points and wins. In theory he could’ve won Imola, he could’ve won yesterday but due to his errors he’s destroying any hopes of winning a 8th record breaking world championship. Of course you expect Hamilton to bounce back at some point but ultimately up till now Hamilton’s been piss poor to put it kindly. 

He won in Bahrain 🇧🇭 Due to the FIA and it’s pathetic rules about turn 4! 
Imola 🇮🇹 well he finished P2 but let’s get real it was super lucky 🍀 for the 7 time world champion could’ve easily been lower like P9! 
Portimao 🇵🇹 he had the strongest of the two cars so nothing really unexpected from Hamilton he did what he should’ve done and did do.
Spain 🇪🇸 again yes some say it was great drive but he had I would agree with Christian Horner Mercedes did have a faster car but not only that RedBull left Max out to dry and it was practically Hungary 🇭🇺 2019 all over again. 
Monaco 🇲🇨 well I’ll give Hamilton a bit of benefit of the doubt here cause Mercedes clearly got done when it came to strategy but same time Hamilton didn’t help his calling through qualifying down in P7! And furthermore his teammate who’s arguably been worse this season managed P2! 
And Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 what excuse can be used here??? He messed up simple as.

Maybe I’m being a bit too critical on Lewis Hamilton but I don’t think so, from a seven time champion you expect more and from what Hamilton has produced over the last 5, 6 or 7 years with Mercedes you expect more. It’s not like he’s got a crap car he’s in a Mercedes for crying out loud and he’s making errors big ones especially in 2021.
Ok he still in the hunt for the title but if he continues forget it he will be soon out of his championship battle and somewhat hundred points behind if Red Bull can capitalize. And the thing is the longer Hamiltons bad form continues the more likelihood RedBull are going to learn there own car and will capitalize. 

Basically long story short Hamilton needs to find his form again!

Should F1 change it’s RedFlag rules??

So question I want to look at today is should F1 change the RedFlag rules??? Now within the last 12 months the been 6 RedFlags! Now that is abnormally high considering how many red flags where thrown between 2015 to end of 2019 which was only 5!  So within the last 12 months we’ve seen as many RedFlags as we’ve seen across years of 5 seasons! So is it time for a change? Under the current rules it allows teams to change tyres, to change wings and damaged body parts like for like. It also under the current rules in enables drivers who are a lap down during races to come back onto the leaders lap. Now personally I think this is a rather unfair situation. Because ultimately put it this way your not allowed to leave the track and gain a advantage yet your allowed to repair a damage car or gain back significant time under one of these safety cars!  Also if you repaired a car during parc ferme you’d have to start your race from the pit lane. RIP 🪦 NIki Lauda 1949-2019!

Niki, good old Niki! It’s already been two years since his passing it’s mad that the first time we come back to Monaco is two years past Lauda death.  Niki is a legend of F1, I talked in my last blog about F1 not having GOATS but a hall of fame and this is true but I think the is also a very good argument Lauda could be the best of all time!  What NIki achieved in F1 career when you look at it is simply unimaginable. He’s technically the only para athlete  F1 driver to ever win a championship! And not just one but two.  After his horrendous crash at the Nurburgring in 1976 I believe it would of simply been amazing if he’d of ever got back into a F1 car to complete maybe one parade lap like what Romain Grosjean is going to get the opportunity in a months time at the FrenchGP let alone to still compete at the top of his game.
