Has RedBull’s reliability issues cost Verstappen a chance of winning this year’s championship?

Now I know we’re three races in and you’d be right to say “Let’s not talk about the championship yet” or “It’s only early days” or something to that effect. However 2 DNFs already, behind in the championship by 46 points and that’s a lot. Even if RedBull some how recovers a small amount at the next GrandPrix what this lead and advantage does for Ferrari is it enables them to relax a little bit.

Mercedes are about a second a lap slower, so they’re not in it this year and Verstappen did win the race that he finished. But Leclerc has had a good start to the season and ultimately Ferrari reliability seems on point however RedBull’s seems far from it. Within the last 3 race so far this season RedBull power trains have had 5 DNFs.

  • Bahrain 🇧🇭: Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly.
  • Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦: Yuki Tsunoda
  • Australia 🇦🇺: Max Verstappen

And that’s already! With still 20 race left to come one could realistically expect also more DNFs this season equally, And it’s not just the effect this has upon the immediate result there and then and the lost of points however let me remind you of the fact that each driver is only allowed a allocation of 3 of each engine part before penalties. Now have RedBull lost 2 engines already? The is the potential there and okay they also may not have but nonetheless the is clearly something plaguing their reliability and their car. Ultimately they got the pace potentially and we’ve seen that but unless they get this reliability sorted sooner rather then later than this season could be over even before we know it.

And Charles Leclerc could be on his way with relative ease to win his first Formula One World Title. But having said that nothing is won or lost just yet.
