F1 silly season part 2 of 2!
Part 2/2. So welcome back to the second article on this topic of driver transfers 2021/22 and in this article we’re going to asses the remaining teams that we didn’t cover yesterday in part 1! So let’s get started shall we....
AlphaTauri
So AlphaTauri the RedBull junior team, okay yes they don’t like to call themselves a sister team but let’s be honest they are because most of the car is old RedBull parts from seasons of before and they’re driver lineups are tend to be drivers who’re either up and coming or not good enough necessarily to be with RedBull but a good stop gap filler. Now looking at the current lineup of Gasly and Tsunoda actually it’s pretty solid for the team. I think if AlphaTauri can or could they may want to keep both however to keep both will depend what happens elsewhere.
I think Gasly will push to leave the team and may succeed and I think he’ll need to for progression of his own career. I think this will therefore see Alex Albon take his seat back on the grid and re-enter the sport and he’ll lineup alongside Yuki Tsunoda who’ll be given a second season at the team.
This, of course, leaves Pierre Gasly out of a seat but will he be able to secure a seat elsewhere?
Alpine.
Alpine, the newly rebranded French team, that have got Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso. Esteban Ocon is a promising young driver who managed to score his first podium in Sakhir last season, but other than that he was well and truly outclassed by Daniel Ricciardo. In 2021 however whilst he’s not been to far off or if in most cases matching/beating the double champion Alonso but let’s be honest this is a Alonso that’s well past his peak. And is back in F1 after not one but two season away from the sport. For 2022, I predict that Alpine will have Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly driving for them. Alonso is good enough to still by far and unless Ocon ups his game and really outclass his elder statesman teammate I don’t think Ocon will be much considered here when it comes to deciding this lineup. He may be offered a reserve driver role/development-test driver but beyond that I don’t see much opportunity for the young Frenchman once again.
RedBull!
Now first of the big two teams to be honest what options do RedBull have? Apart for Verstappen and Checo honestly I don’t see many other available drivers out there and if the are any certainly not good enough for the RedBull seat alongside Max Verstappen.
Perez so far has done a decent job at the beginning of his RedBull career of course the is still that next level he can improve upon but overall so far so good. And Max unless a seat crops up at Mercedes where can he go??? Well it’s highly unlikely he’ll be off to Mercedes so he’s stuck like Sergio at RedBull for now but that’s not a bad thing given the competitiveness of RedBull car and it’s clear improvements.
Other option could include Pierre Gasly but he’s had his shot and with Yuki well he’s simply not ready yet for this step up to the senior team.
Mercedes 💜.
Finally, we have the big guns, the Silver Arrows! While Hamilton is not yet signed on for 2022, you can only assume that he will and all indications from him and the team point towards that. However the real question lays not over Hamilton’s shoulders but Valtteri’s. It’s Bottas who’s under pressure. Personally I think it’s been the case now for at least 2/3 season he’s a spent force in F1 and apart from being Lewis Hamilton’s wingman he’s nothing more and nothing else. Sad really as he’s genuine and nice guy but sadly the competition he’s up against is a little too much for the Finn.
if Hamilton leaves it will be his choice; Mercedes are not exactly going to drop him.
For 2022, I predict that Mercedes will sign Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Lewis will stay another I say season or two at least and will continue his time in F1 to promote diversity and inclusion and for George Russell well surely next year is a guaranteed promotion? If not I’ll eat my socks 🧦. George is proven time, time and time again he’s good enough for Mercedes and top team, he’s earned his stripes at Williams and move to Mercedes would enable him to grab the benefit of what he sowed.
So that’s my 2022 driver line ups!
Williams will have Latifi and Aitken
Haas will have Schumacher and Mazepin
Alfa Romeo will have Giovinnazi and Ilott
AlphaTauri will have Albon and Tsunoda
Alpine will have Alonso and Gasly
AstonMartin will have Vettel and Stroll
Ferrari will have Sainz and Leclerc
McLaren will have Ricciardo and Norris
RedBull will have Verstappen and Perez
Mercedes will have Hamilton and Russell
