Bahrain GrandPrix Race Report 2021 Round 1

Image
So round 1 seen F1 head of out to the desert to kick start the 2021 season and whilst Verstappen put it on Pole on Saturday however the question was could he hold of 7 time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton. However before we even got a lap under our belts problems struck RedBull’s Sergio Perez who seemed to suffered a brief electrical issue however managed to get his car restarted prior to the lights going out however this cost the field 1 whole extra formation lap. The 5 lights came on and it was lights out go, go, go with the 2021 season getting underway and off the front row it was pretty even between Hamilton and Verstappen and all cars made it through Turn 1 the Schumacher corner unscathed however then at Turn 3 the exact same corner in which Grosjean found barriers last season in hugely terrifying crash Nikitia Mazepin found them this time!  Lap 4 and we got back underway however this wouldn’t last long tho’ as Pierre Gasly would loose his front wing in the middle of battle ...

Tribute to Schmitz

Image
This astoundingly talented champion race driver should well be affectionately remembered - Tributes ARE powerful, strong & many - All kind words about her. For ME it’s these things that I shall remember about her “Greatness” - Watch THIS !!!! - Also, she could deal with strong humour AND in GOOD GRACE - Watch THIS - - This next video, had ME roaring with laughter, particularly at the 01:10 onward section, where a group of about 4–5 English/British Motorcyclists actually “Get In Her Way” - They ARE riding 165mph–185mph sports “superbikes” & she, Sabine Schmitz, is coming up behind them, driving FASTER (than they are, on their bikes), in just a bloody VAN !!!!!! - - I mean, F.F.S - Sabine IS driving a bloody stock/standard Ford Transit VAN - whilst these “slow” bozos ARE riding round on 165mph-185mph ‘race-rep’ sportsbikes Just around 01:10–01:14 sec’ mark, Sabine scowls…. “F**KING BIKE IN MY WAY - ENGLISH “SHLUG” (SLUG), ON DER BIKE” - Absolute CLASSIC ! That alone had me roarin...

Who are the winners and losers from testing in Bahrain 2021? Are Mercedes-powered cars in trouble?

Image
Who are the winners and losers from testing in Bahrain 2021? Are Mercedes-powered cars in trouble? I don't think Mercedes are in trouble but I am really hopeful that Honda can be a serious threat this year. At the end of the morning session Perez was well-up and in the closing minutes Hamilton, Tzunoda and Max were on C5, C5 and C4 tyres respectively, trying to do a hot lap. The importance of the times set will be played down of course with teams saying we drove with so and so many kgs of fuel, but in the end Honda was quicker with Max just ahead of Tsunoda. The afternoon/evening session was quicker because the circumstances were better, so the times of this morning are low on the chart. There were problems for Aston Martin (engine/turbo) which kept the car in the pits. Honda are the winners, I think, Haas and Aston Martin were not. Especially Aston Martin disappointed because more was expected from them with all the new Mercedes technology (rear suspension) and momentum from last ...

Why do F1 cars lose pace in a race compared to qualifiers?

Image
The main reason is that in qualifying they run with the minimum quantity of fuel required to do 2 or 3 laps whereas at the start of the race they have a little over 100kg on board which they need to complete the race. This 100kg of fuel is a substantial fraction of the car’s total mass. The rule of thumb is that every 10kg of fuel costs about 0.3s of lap time so cars can be something like 3 seconds a lap slower just because of the mass of fuel. In qualifying the driver and team will try to extract the absolute maximum performance for the car for one fast lap, this puts a lot of load on the engine and tyres which generally can’t be sustained for an entire 2 hour race. Equally driver will try to be on the absolute limit for qualifying laps, this carries an increased risk of errors and that risk/reward calculation can change for a 50 lap race compared to one lap. Tyres are also a factor, there are several different dry weather tyre compounds available per race weekend each with a differen...

Day 1 TestBahrain

Image
Today was the first time the 2021 cars were to be seen on track and it became obvious immediately why testing in the middle of a sandstorm is not a good idea. This picture, taken at the end of the day, shows how much sand was in the air. The laps completed chart shows that Red Bull and Alpine completed most laps. The comparison between Max and Hamilton shows that Mercedes was not having a good day. Bottas drove the morning session and had to park his car on the side of the track with gearbox trouble. Aston Martin made its first miles on track with Vettel at the wheel: Leclerc was unable to reach the pits as his Ferrari came to a halt with technical problems at the end of the morning session. Fortunately Ferrari managed to get the car ready for Sainz to drive the afternoon session. My conclusion is that Red Bull and McLaren were doing well and Ferrari and especially Mercedes did not have a good day. Let's see what they can do tomorrow. Saturday will also be the first time Perez driv...

Why Grosjean Crash Changed my perspective of F1???

Image
Why the Grosjean crash changed my prospective on Formula One. Now look it may sound daft or pathetic to think a crash like Grosjean’s could change someone’s views the way they see F1.   Now I’m not going to talk about necessarily how F1 should progress in safety innovation or talk about how it already has I just want to talk about how seeing that crash changed my prospective of these drivers. Now before the crash I always just backed Seb! And I still am a hardcore Seb Vettel fan no one can change my DNA and no one will change my DNA. But whilst no one can change my DNA and where my loyalties lay however events can change your horizons. They can broaden your horizons. That crash on that day sent a shock wave through my body. If I was there and actually at the track I don’t know if I would of ever returned to see another F1 race again? Ultimately seeing that crash mentally impacted me it made me reconsider stuff that I didn’t consider too much before hand in BLM, WeRaceAsOne a...

What has to happen for Lawrence Stroll and Aston Martin F1 to get Lewis Hamilton in 2022?

Image
As of late lots of rumours have been swirling around AstonMartin. And one of those rumours was around 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton, Lawrence Stroll father of current racing driver Lance and team owner of Aston was in a conversation with F1 Media Journalist  and told them that it would be difficult to not be tempted by signing the 7 time world champion. So today I’ve decided to look into what exactly needs to happen in order for Lawrence to sign the 7 time world champion?  Now firstly a lot of different things would need to happen in order for this deal to happen, A) Hamilton has to want to be still in F1, B) Hamilton doesn’t want to continue with Mercedes and C) a lot of money put down on the negotiation table. Ultimately I think it’s nonsense because I think any team up and down the grid would love to hire Hamilton but let’s get real here for a second will Hamilton want Aston? Hamilton is 36 years old I’m not saying he can’t do one more project but when you hav...
